Regional film distributor Empire Entertainment in collaboration with Mooz Films has announced the release of Nadine Labaki's Oscar-nominated film in theaters across the Middle East.
Capernaum, directed by Lebanese filmmaker Nadine Labaki, will screen in theatres across the Middle East in UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, Iraq and Syria on 14 March, while dates for Egypt, Kuwait and KSA will follow. Capernaum (Chaos) depicts the excruciating journey of 12-year-old Zain through the slums of Beirut and the events leading him to serve a five-year sentence for a violent crime and suing his parents for neglect.

Winner of the Grand Jury price at the Cannes Film Festival, where the screening was followed by a 15-minute standing ovation, Capernaum made Labaki the first female Lebanese filmmaker to ever be nominated for the Academy Awards.
Internationally acclaimed by critics, the movie is an astonishing yet heartbreaking portrayal of the inner world of marginalised children who the system has failed, as Labaki herself has explained in several interviews.
The six-month filmmaking process, based on a three-year research over real life characters with the same struggles and background stories of the fictional ones, led Filmmaker Labaki to cast mostly unprofessional actors, ultimately resulting in an outstanding project praised by critics and catalysing worldwide interest of the press and media personalities.
